Sections are super cool. These are groups within the CBA – think of them like your first year classes. You are all part of your individual year, but are also taking torts, contracts, etc. These are self-selected groups of lawyers who practice in a given field, such as criminal law, business law, etc.
These sections meet every so often to bring in a guest speaker, talk about recent developments in their field, educate others, and generally socialize. You, as a member of the CBA, have the ability to join any section that interests you, and attend their meetings!
This gives you unprecedented access to lawyers in the specific areas of law that you are interested in, and shows how keen you are to already be in the legal profession! Attending section meetings teaches you about that field of law, allows you to meet those who practice in it, and makes you seem super on top of everything.
To learn more about how to enroll in sections, please click here and follow the step-by-step instructions of how to enroll in any and all sections that interest you!
Please note – there are sections that are specific to Vancouver, Victoria, and some in the interior. You can join any one you want to! There is no pressure to attend their meetings simply for enrolling.
