President: Ike Birk
Ike is a third year law student with an interest in litigation. He brings many years of experience as an entrepreneur, project manager, and government negotiator to the team. He is a relationship builder, having worked with several Indigenous groups, not-for-profits, seniors organizations, and private enterprises in the past. Ike possess a BA in Political Science (SFU) and an MBA in Strategic Management (UBC).
Vice-President: Alicia Catalano
Alicia graduated from Capilano University in 2014, with a Bachelor of Business degree and an Advanced Diploma in Human Resource Management. During her undergrad Alicia played volleyball for the Women’s Volleyball team at her university and still enjoys playing volleyball recreationally. Alicia loves to travel and has been fortunate enough to live in Switzerland for 6 months, as part of a study abroad program, and spend four months travelling in Asia prior to coming to TRU. When not studying Alicia enjoys volunteering in the community, hiking and playing board games. Alicia is excited to be a member of the SLS as Vice President and looks forward to representing and advocating for the student body.

2L Class Rep: Sean Marzinzik
Sean has lived all over western Canada but now calls the Okanagan home, having lived in Kelowna, BC, between 2007 and 2016. After graduating from UBC with a degree in International Relations, Sean spent several years working for Shaw Communications before pursuing a future career in law.
Sean loves cars, technology, hiking, and mixed martial arts. Oh, and anything to do with Star Wars or superheroes.
Sean is eager to represent the interests of the Class of 2019 on the SLS. It’s a privilege to be a liaison between the student body and TRU’s faculty and administration. If you have any concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to him!
3L Class Rep: Danica Beck
Danica is from East Vancouver, born and raised. Before coming to Thompson Rivers University, she completed a Bachelor of Arts in Political Sciences and First Nations Studies from the University of British Columbia and worked for the Federal government.
Danica is very excited to have been given the privilege of representing her year in their final stretch at law school! Her focus as a 3L representative is to foster efficient and effective channels of communication between her cohorts, faculty and the administration at TRU Law.
When not doing readings, planning grad events or attending meetings, she enjoys catching flights and long walks along the river with her German shorthaired pointer.
Academic Director: Steven Shergill
Steven Shergill is a third year law student here at TRU Law. Prior to entering law school, Steven completed a Bachelor of Commerce, specializing in Urban Land Economics at the Sauder School of Business at the University of British Columbia in 2015.
Born and raised in Surrey, BC, Steven takes advantage of the natural beauty the lower mainland offers by skiing, going on hikes, and kayaking. In his spare time, Steven is either trying to learn as many languages as possible or is babysitting.
Steven is proud to be a TRU Law student, and is looking forward to representing the voice of the student body on the Academic Planning Committee and Faculty Council as TRU Law continues to expand the selection of courses and develops an exam policy.

Communications & Marketing Director: Hans Gustavson
2L Hans Gustavson is from West Vancouver and prior to law school he graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Victoria. During his fourth year, he lived in Norway for 5 months for an exchange term, and spent all of his free time travelling the rest of Europe. His favourite experiences were meeting his extended family, hiking Trolltunga, and attending Oktoberfest in Munich. He has always been an avid hockey player, golfer, skier, and lover of all things technology. When he is not studying, you can find him playing for the TRU Lawggers hockey team or stuffing his face at all-you-can-eat sushi. He plans to pursue a career in corporate, real estate, or intellectual property law. In addition to being the Communications and Marketing Officer, Hans is also the student representative on the TRU Web Working Committee, an Orientation Leader, and helping manage the Lawggers hockey team and TRU Law golf tournament.
Development Director: Shane Hickey
Born in Turner Valley, Alberta, Shane Hickey grew up on a small farm. His primary interests growing up were hockey and being outdoors. He completed high school in 2009 graduating from Mount Boucherie Secondary School in West Kelowna, British Columbia. He then pursued and graduated from St. Francis Xavier with a degree in Philosophy and History. Shane enjoys playing golf, hockey, and occasionally hitting the slopes when the conditions are just right.
Eventually Shane wants to pursue a career in a commercial, tax, or real estate law. Although he grew up near Calgary hopes to settle eventually in the Kootenays. He’s excited for the opportunity to represent TRU and the SLS as Development Director.

Aanchal Mogla is a 2nd year law student passionate about the intersection between constitutional, environmental, and Indigenous law. Her experience working in project management for local and international grassroots nonprofit organizations has motivated her to use the law to dismantle oppressive systems. Aanchal has a BBA in International Business and a postgraduate certificate in International Development.
Outreach Director: Elizabeth Cunningham
Liz Cunningham is the Outreach Director for the 2017-2018 school year. She graduated from Queen’s University in 2014 with a degree in History and Political Science. After backpacking Europe and spending some time working in Toronto, Liz started at TRU Law in 2016. She likes to ski, drink wine and is quickly becoming a country music fan.
Secretary: Imogen Jenkins
Imogen grew up in Jasper, AB and prior to law school completed a Political Science degree at Concordia University of Edmonton. Imogen is in her third year of law school at TRU and is looking forward to making her final year at TRU the best yet! Outside of school Imogen loves to ski, mountain bike, and try new foods and craft beers. Sports & Clubs Director: Blake Storey
During his undergraduate degree, Blake majored in Business Economics and Law, with a Minor in Strategic Management and Organization at the University of Alberta. After graduating from the Alberta School of Business in 2015 with a Bachelor of Commerce Degree, Blake made the choice to attend law school in Kamloops at Thompson Rivers University.
Growing up in Edmonton has developed Blake into the ultimate Oilers fan who is always willing to talk sports with anybody who approaches him. As your 2017/18 Sports and Clubs Director, he is excited to instill his love for sport in this position and use his creative spirit to ensure that the student community is connected through sports and clubs at TRU Law.
When Blake is not in the Library, you can often find him admiring his Fantasy sports teams, watching Hockey, or laughing at repeats of the Office on Netflix. He also enjoys participating in intramural sports, and he is currently an active member of the Lawggers hockey team.
