Health and Wellness

TRU Law supports the health and well-being of its student body with a variety of programs throughout the year. From weekly health and wellness tips to visits from the St. Johns Ambulance Therapy Dogs to the Fitness Challenges held every November and March, a number of opportunities are available for students to assess and improve their work-life balance. At the Tournament Capital Centre (TCC), members have access to a lap pool, sauna and a fitness area with cardiovascular and strength training equipment, as well as a variety of small group training and exercise classes, including yoga and spinning. Everyone in the TRU Law community is encouraged to stop by TRU Wellness Centre at OM 1482, where staff can provide information and resources about TRU wellness activities, student health insurance, and other wellness issues.

Wellness is more than just your physical health, exercise, and nutrition. At TRU Law, the 2016-2017 Health & Wellness Director, Sheldon Roussy, who was elected in October 2016, has encouraged all TRU Law students to develop an awareness of their social, emotional, physical, environmental, occupational, spiritual, and mental well-being. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to him as he’s always happy to chat with TRU Law students!

In September 2015, Derek LaCroix from the Lawyers Assistance Program of BC visited TRU Law to discuss some of the supportive resources that available to TRU Law students as members of the legal community. He provided great insight and information to the students. He also provided a great resource entitled “Strategies for Creating a Healthy Practice”. The easiest way to reach the Lawyer’s Assistance Program is to phone 604.685.2171 or 1.888.685.2171. Someone will answer your call or you will be connected to a confidential voice message box. If you leave a message, they will return your call as soon as possible. The service is available 24 hours/day, 7 days/week, so there’s no need to worry about calling when the office is closed. Derek can also be reached at the LAP office or you can send a confidential email to Derek at Derek@lapbc.com.
